There is a qualitative difference with kali... depending on how it's installed! If you follow the latest greatest version and do an apt-get upgrade then your system might break. And it'll work again tomorrow after another upgrade. (I have a Kali VM and I've seen that happen). Kali can be the most unstable of distributions. I agree that a meta post to point people to might be better, just so we can tell people "Hey, you may not have made the best choice..."
